Favourite deep cleansing masks

This is a blog post I've been meaning to do for a while because it's a step that a lot of people forget to regularly incorporate into their skincare routine. I absolutely love having a relaxing bath on a Sunday evening with a face mask and a cup of tea. It is recommend that you use a face mask 1-2 times per week. Personally twice a week is too much for my skin. But as I've said, once a week I will use one of the masks mentioned below. I thought I'd just mention that I also love using nose pore strips as they give you such a strange feeling of joy when you see all the blackheads they pull out of your nose - gross I know, but oh so satisfying. I will also throw in a gentle exfoliation and finish the pamper session all off with a hydrating mask and eye cream. See my pamper routine in more depth here.

1. Sanctuary Spa - 5 minute Thermal Detox Mask

This is my favourite deep cleansing mask at the moment. It is a charcoal based mask as opposed to clay which makes it slightly different from a lot of other face masks. It doesn't dry down and become hard and crispy on the face which I like as it is comfortable to wear unlike other masks that feel tight and dry on my face. Once removed this leaves my skin feeling very refreshed, cleansed, smooth and so soft and hydrated. I prefer it over higher end charcoal or clay masks which is an added bonus as its very affordable.

2. Aesop - Parsley Seed Cleansing Mask

This is a new addition to my pamper kit, but one that I love for a really deep cleanse. It is fairly pale in colour compared to other deep cleansing masks. It has a lot of skin loving ingredients such as Parsley Seed, Evening Primrose and Rosehip Seed. Again this leaves my skin feeling very nourished and gives me that 'brand new skin' feeling. However it can be a tad drying at times.

3. Super Facialist by Una Brennan - Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask (available in store from Boots, I can't currently find it on their website)

Another very affordable detoxifying mask, which was my favourite until recently when the Sanctuary Spa mask hit my bathroom shelf. The reason this slipped slightly in my list of favourites is that I find it a tiny bit too drying for my skin at the moment however for those of you with oily/combination skins this would be perfect.

4. Origins - Clear Improveements Active Charcoal Mask

It saddens me to put this as the final product in this favourites list as this used to be my holy grail face mask. I still love it, but I have found other products since that work better for my skin. This is a very very deep cleaning mask, so much so that the next day you will probably come out in spots. Yes I know what you're all thinking,  well why would I want to apply a mask that's going to make me break out the next day, but the reason it does this isn't because it disagrees with your skin but because it's just so good at clearing out your pores. Whatever is blocking up you're pores doesn't just magically disappear, this mask brings everything to the surface. So in the long run its a fantastic mask because you will reap the benefits a couple of days after you applied the mask when the spots have cleared up. So in short this isn't one to apply if you have a special occasion the next day.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post!
